Polls, schmolls. This election is a referendum on Obama

I'm old enough to remember the 1980 election, and worrying about Jimmy Carter getting his sorry butt re-elected.  I recall the polls a few months before that election putting Jimmy back in the Oval Office by double digits, according to the polls.  Doesn't anyone remember that besides me?

And what happened?  Jimmy Carter lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan.  One of the worst landslide losses in American history.

Polls, schmolls.

As Yogi Berra put it, it's like deja vu all over again.  I've seen this before, not all that long ago.  A really terrible first term president who couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag on any national issue up in the polls, with the 'underdog's' supporters wringing their hands and biting their nails.

The economy stinks.  Just ask anybody (except Jay Zee and Beyonce).  Obama's foreign policy stinks.  Just ask Israili PM Bebe Netanyahu. Just ask the dead Libyan ambassador and all of those millions of Osama's in the Mid East (we all saw them chanting 'we're all Osama's now, Obama,' was I the only one who heard that?) what they think of Barry's foreign policy.  Go ahead, ask them.  Obama's domestic policies stink.  Just ask the 60+% of us who loathe Obamacare and demand its repeal. Just ask the 53% of us who still pay federal income taxes.

Polls, schmolls.

You might want to read Hack Wilson's latest take on the real skinny (http://hackwilson.blogspot.com/2012/09/2012-election-prediction-mitt-romney.html) as Hack digs deep into the numbers and has a credible analysis of the way things worked out in the past.  I'm just basing my opinion on what I see as to the Zeit Geist's mood, and what my aging eyeballs actually saw happen back in the day.

Polls, scmolls.  Did anyone see the landslide Republican wins coming in November 2010?  No, not really.  Did anyone dream of Republican off term wins by Bob McDonnel in Virginia,  Chris Christie in New Jersey and particularly that pickup truck driving Scott Brown in Massachusetts?  No way, Jose.

Romney wins in November 2012, and he wins big because this election is flat out a referendum on a failed Barack Obama first term.

And I'm going to say this one more time: polls, schmolls.

One thing to remember about all the polls is that they are heavily oversampling Democrats, which is skewing the results in Barry's favor.

This is blatant fraud on the part of the pollsters to boost President Pull-Ups with bandwagon voters who decide not on the issues but who the likely winner will be.

Yes, I agree that the recent polls we are seeing are not worth anything, as they violate every rule in the book with their sampling errors, unreasonable assumptions and just flat out bias.

Chris W hits the nail on the head. Almost every single poll reported on in the media oversamples Democrats and undersamples independents. Despite this, these bogus polls still have Obama only 2-4 points ahead. That should be scary if you're a Democrat. Thanks for the link.

If the polls are skewed toward Obama, independents whose brains were fried looking at Karen's picture yesterday, may just decide to stay home. Øbama would like nothing better ...

I agree with Kid ... this just can't happen twice in a row. But I'm very afraid it will happen.

Damn.

The majority of the polls are shills for the left.

There is little, if any, honesty in polling, as the results are determined not only by who is polled but by how questions are asked.

I really, really hope you are right about the up-coming election.

Anybody But Obama!

Absolutely the polls have been skewed, all with the intention to depress Republicans.

I remember the 1980 election. Heck I still remember the sick, sick feeling I got on the night of the 1976 election!

There are more remarkable similarities between then and now, aren't there? Weakness being taken advantage of in the Middle East...

We're living through Jimmy Carter's second term.

I am with you, Fredd. But we need to convince the Eeyores out there that the media is trying to dishearten them. Romney will win by a landslide. I feel it.

I fear another case of "hanging chads" during this election, regardless of who comes out ahead.

And as for polls, have we forgotten that the media is actually the majority of the problem in politics?

Great Video on this subject by an ex-Democrat. He realizes that the press is necessary for free society. It's 30- minutes, but time well spent.

Honestly, Fredd, I could reach through the screen and give you a big smack on the forehead kiss for this...(I just noticed you're on moderation, so I probably just commented myself out of being published as I know how men feel about getting kissed by strange women but...:-)... I'm pretty cute, you might not mind (smile!)

Anyway......I SO hope you're right.
The media's in OVERDRIVE preventing a Romney win! Do you know that, today, even an Interior Design site has done a rather innocuous article on the Romney/Obama homes? Except it starts with Romney's FOUR and then shows Obama's ONE. Subtle, eh? I just have to laugh in my misery.
Let's all remember; SUCCESS IS BAD IN AMERICA TODAY. (God, how did that happen?)

I uncharacteristically watched about five minutes of all the SUnday morning shows today and it's SO slanted that I honestly believe most AMericans who watch are thinking "Are they kidding? Are they paid by the DNC?"
It was ALL ALL ALL subtle and not-so-subtle slams on Romney and Ryan, given with SUCH 'intelligence' and 'consideration' (as IF).

I'm pretty resigned to losing (and then drinking hemlock if I can find some!!)... I hope you're right.......I SO hope you're right about the polls.

Z: I, too, am not happy about how this election is being covered, as if we need not even show up, our vote won't matter.

It's hammered into my brain every damn ABC, CBS, etc news segment. Even Fox News is starting down that path.

Baloney. The only poll that will matter is on Nov. 6, and just like the 2010 elections, I think that things will go our way.
